How to Reach Mandarmani from Kolkata: Complete Travel Guide

5 March 2026·6 min read·Royal Villa Resorts Team

Mandarmani sits roughly 170–180 km from Kolkata, and getting there is straightforward once you know the route. Here's what to expect by road, rail, or a combination of both.

By Road — The Most Common Route

Most guests drive down via NH16 towards Kharagpur and then onto the coastal road through Contai. The drive takes about 4–5 hours depending on traffic out of Kolkata, and the last stretch runs close enough to the coast that you start seeing the sea before you arrive. Self-driving is easy — the roads are well-marked and mostly good condition.

By Train + Cab

If you'd rather not drive, take a train to Digha or Contai and hire a cab for the final leg — Digha to Mandarmani is about 15 km, roughly 30–40 minutes by road. This is a popular option for solo travellers and couples who want to relax on the train instead of a long drive.

By Bus

Regular buses run from Kolkata (Esplanade/Digha bus stands) towards Digha and Contai, with local transport covering the last stretch into Mandarmani. It's the most budget option, though it takes longer than driving.

Getting Around Once You're Here

Mandarmani itself is small — most guests don't need a vehicle once they've arrived, since the beach, the resort, and nearby eateries are all within easy reach. If you're planning day trips to Digha or Junput, it's worth arranging a cab for the day rather than hopping between shared autos.
